Great things happening in the Archie Music Department! Jackson Martin got to spend a week at Mizzou's Composition Camp. This audition-based camp requires students submit a composition, in order to be accepted to the camp. After being accepted, Jackson spent the week with other young composers and Mizzou's Music Staff as he was learning about music theory and composition. During the week he created the "Elevator! (Polka)."
Here is a description of the piece from him.
It’s sort of a “what if” concept. What if an Oboe, Bassoon, and piano trio tried to perform a polka on a malfunctioning elevator? A lot of the melody usually focuses on scaling up or down, with some occasional wild jumps, and extended techniques. I wanted to also have my try at a cumulative song, which means taking a short simple line to start, and modifying it each time it repeats to make it longer. However, instead of making the phrase longer, I just made it more complex and jagged.
Please support Jackson by giving the song a listen using the link provided. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/qvAFCa8x2g4?si=60pRe93A4ZGzOgi7
